Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, has said that he was sound asleep when members of parliament turned parliament into a boxing ring over the E-levy.
On the 20th of December 2021, members of parliament transformed parliament into a battle field. The approval of the new E-levy was a source of contention among MPs.
Alban Bagbin claims that he only found out about it after he woke up. Alban Bagbin informed the host of the State-run GBC’s Moomeen Tonight show that he left after a difficult day and after failing to get the Majority side to table the Bill for discussion.
“I departed Parliament after sending my final words for the day, that is, the session, to the First Deputy Speaker through my usher. So I’ve given notice that I won’t be present to read my concluding remarks, and I’ve gone home.
“I later turned off my phone and fell asleep in the bed because I was so exhausted.” My wife awakened me up after 12 p.m. to prepare my meal, and then I went to check social media, when I saw that the Honourable members I had left in the house had dishonored themselves by exchanging blows,” he added.
