I Lied To My Son That I Had Travelled To Nigeria While In Jail – Akuapem Poloo

Rosemond Alade Brown, aka Akuapem Poloo, chose to conceal the abrupt change in her life from her young son by lying to him about her whereabouts when she was imprisoned.

According to the socialite, that was the best way she could think of to preserve her son and protect him from any early childhood traumas caused by her absence.

In an exclusive interview with SammyKay, Akuapem Poloo, who was released from jail after only a few days, said she told her son she was in Nigeria when she was taken away from him.

“I told him, I was going to Nigeria to work and my mother also tried to convince him with the same message. I didn’t know how he would feel so I decided to lie to him,” she said.

Akuapem Poloo stated that she couldn’t bear the thought of leaving her son behind for the next three months, so she decided to deceive him in order for him to stay focused in school.

On April 16, Akuapem Poloo was sentenced to 90 days in prison by an Accra Circuit Court after pleading guilty to charges of posting a nude picture of herself and her son on social media.

Akuapem Poloo paid a GH12,000 fine imposed by the Court of Appeal in Accra after her custodial sentence was overturned on Friday, December 17, 2021.

She did, however, file an appeal seeking to overturn the ruling, but the Accra High Court dismissed the application on December 1, 2021.

On December 6, 2021, Akuapem Poloo filed a new appeal, with the Court of Appeal seeking a non-custodial sentence rather than a custodial sentence.

Her custodial sentence was overturned in a ruling on December 15, 2021, and she was instead fined GHS12,000.
