Emirates Airlines has indefinitely extended the initial 48-hour ban on flights from Accra to Dubai, according to myjoyonline.com.
“Emirates flight suspension from Accra to Dubai, effective December 27, 2021, has now been extended until further notice,” the airline said in an urgent broadcast to trade partners on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
The airline, however, stated that flights from Dubai to Accra will continue for passengers who have confirmed reservations and meet the entry requirements for Accra.
Passenger transport to and from Abidjan has also been halted.
According to AviationGhana sources, the flight suspension is due to an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases on outbound flights from Accra and Abidjan arriving in Dubai.
Ghana officially entered the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic on Monday, December 27, 2021, with a record number of positive cases.
The number of active cases in the country has now reached 8,554.
