Todd Boehly Completes £4.25bn Chelsea Takeover

Chelsea has been taken over by a consortium led by Todd Boehly, ending Roman Abramovich’s 19-year ownership of the club.

This comes just two days after it was announced that a “final and definitive agreement” on the sale of Chelsea to the Boehly-led consortium had been reached.

The new owners stated that they are “committed to investing in key areas that will extend and enhance Chelsea’s competitiveness, such as the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge, additional investment in the academy, the women’s team, and Kingsmeadow stadium,” and that they will “continue the important work of the Chelsea Foundation.”

In a statement posted on Chelsea’s website, Boehly stated, “We are honored to become the new custodians of Chelsea Football Club.” Every minute of every match, we’re all in – 100 percent.

“As owners, our goal is simple: we want to make the fans proud.” Along with our commitment to developing the youth squad and acquiring the best talent, our long-term strategy is to invest in the club and build on Chelsea’s illustrious history of success.”

“I personally want to thank ministers and officials in the British government, as well as the Premier League, for all their work in making this happen,” Boehly added.

Abramovich, a Russian-Israeli billionaire, listed Chelsea for sale on March 2, a week after Vladimir Putin’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine.

Despite Clearlake Capital becoming the majority shareholder, Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Boehly is now Chelsea’s controlling owner. According to a statement issued by the new owners, Boehly and Clearlake will “share joint control and equal governance of the club,” with Boehly serving as chairman of the holding company.
