TikTok, a viral video app, has become the world’s most popular online destination.
According to Cloudflare, an IT security company, the Chinese-owned app receives more traffic than the American search engine, Google.
According to Cloudfare rankings, TikTok dethroned Google in February, March, and June of this year, and has held the top spot since August 2021.
Last year, Google was first, and TikTok, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, and Netflix were all in the top ten.
According to Cloudfare, one of the reasons for Tiktok’s popularity surge is the Covid pandemic, as lockdowns meant people were stuck at home and used the app for entertainment.
According to data company Sensor Tower, TikTok has been downloaded more than three billion times and has more than one billion active users worldwide as of July 2021.
TikTok, also known as Douyin in China, debuted in September 2016.
