Tariq Lamptey Completes Nationality Switch From England To Ghana

Tariq Lamptey, England U21 defender, has had fruitful talks with the Ghana Football Association and is set to play for the Black Stars ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 21-year-old has been in Ghana for vacation and charity work.

He did, however, take advantage of the opportunity to speak with Ghana Football Association officials as he considers his international future.

GHANASoccernet.com can confirm that the player has been persuaded by the FA’s proposals and will be available for Ghana’s upcoming international matches.

The Brighton and Hove Albion right-back requested a leave of absence from the England U21 squad during the international break to deal with personal matters.

He traveled to Ghana and attended the Black Stars’ game against Madagascar at the Cape Coast stadium.

Lamptey’s decision to represent Ghana stems from the fact that he has not been considered for the English senior team, and competition for places may jeopardize his international future.

Despite missing time due to injury, the London-born midfielder has been an important part of Brighton manager Graham Potter’s team for the past two seasons.
