Taraji P. Henson Returns To Host 2022 BET Awards

Taraji P. Henson, the Golden Globe-winning actor, will host the BET Awards again in 2022, the organizers and producers announced.

Culture’s biggest night in entertainment will be broadcast live on BET on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET/PT from Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater. The event was hosted for the first time by the celebrated filmmaker and philanthropist during its 21st edition, which took place on June 27, 2021.

“I am honored to return as the host of the BET Awards and share the stage with so many powerful and prolific artists; you can even say it is the ‘empire’ of Black Excellence,” said Henson. “Working with amazing partners like Scott and Connie at BET and Jesse Collins Entertainment is a creative’s dream. I can’t wait to celebrate Black music, entertainment, and culture with our viewers on what will be one unforgettable night.”

Over the last decade, the “Acrimony” star has appeared in some of Hollywood’s most critically acclaimed projects, including her iconic role as “Cookie Lyon” in Fox’s hit musical drama Empire, which earned her three Emmy nominations, a Golden Globe Award, a Critics’ Choice Award, and three BET Awards.

The nominees for the 2022 edition were announced yesterday by the Black Entertainment Television network, and they include African musicians such as Wizkid, Tems, and Fireboy from Nigeria, Fally Ipupa from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Major League Djz from South Africa. Doja Cat, on the other hand, has received the most nominations for the 2022 BET Awards, with six.

The BET Awards have honored artists, entertainers, athletes, and philanthropists in over 20 categories since their inception in 2001. According to the organizers, this year’s nominees represent a wealth of creative expression and black excellence in music, television, film, and sports.
