Police Find Missing Tanzanian Politician Relaxing In A Woman’s House Months After He Disappeared

Mutta Rwakatare, a 43-year-old Tanzanian politician who had gone missing, was discovered relaxing in a woman’s home.

The family of Rwakatare, the Kawe ward councillor, reported him missing to police in February of this year.

According to a statement issued by Dar es Salaam Special Zone RPC ACP Jumanne Muliro, the politician was discovered at a woman’s home in the Tabata suburbs of Ilala District.

“On the 23rd of May, the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Force conducted an investigation and were able to locate the Councillor at the home of one Ashura Ally Matitu, 43,” according to the statement.

According to the police, Ms Matitu, a Tabata Darajani resident, claimed that Rwakatare has been her longtime companion in a decade-long relationship.

She went on to say that Mr Rwakatare arrived at her house intoxicated on May 19 and stayed until he was apprehended by police.

Rwakatare has reportedly been missing since February of this year, prompting social media speculation about his whereabouts.

Rwakatare’s siblings and colleagues have been conducting a frantic search for him with no success, prompting Kinondoni’s mayor, Songoro Mnyonge, to request assistance from the media.

“We’re looking for the Kawe ward councillor because we haven’t seen him in a long time.” He is not at home, nor is he at work. According to reports, he has been hidden, but we don’t know who. We are requesting that whoever has hidden him release him because he/she is impeding the leader’s ability to serve the residents of his area. “Please help us, media,” Mnyonge had said.

The family had also given police background information about the Councillor’s behavior and conduct that had led to him going missing for months. Treatment and additional psychological therapies are being pursued.
