A French court has sentenced the man who slapped President Macron to 4 months in prison.
The man, Damien Tarrel slapped the French president when he approached the crowd to say “Hello”.
He was quickly apprehended and kept in custody of the police. He was arraigned before a French court in the south eastern province of Valence on Thursday June 6th.

He was sentenced to four months imprisonment, given a 14 months suspension, and banned from holding any public office and possessing a weapon for the exit 5 years.
Damien, the 28 year old culprit apparently planned to hit the president with eggs or cream pie with his friends but they dropped the idea later on.

However, he insisted that the ‘slap’ wasn’t deliberate.
“When I saw his friendly, lying look, I felt disgust, and I had a violent reaction,” Tarel told the court. “It was an impulsive reaction… I was surprised myself by the violence.”
It was revealed according to the Guardian that Damien was involved in several activist groups who stand against Emmanuel Macron’s presidency.
The French president when asked about the incident, decided to be silent on the issue claiming it wasn’t a big deal. “Nothing justifies violence in a democratic society, never.” He affirmed.
He also made it clear that anyone who holds public authority is entitled to respect. In the same vein, another man was also arrested for possessing illegal weapons.
