Kim Kardashian has attributed the success of her family show; Keeping Up With The Kardashians to her 2007 sex tape scandal.
When asked about the impact the sex tape had, by Andy Cohen on set while filming the family reunion show, she affirmed that yes the show wouldn’t have gained that much publicity had the scandal not happened.
She shot the video with her then-boyfriend Willy “Ray Jay” Norwood in 2003. The adult tape got leaked four years later and eventually shot her to fame and prosperity.
The then-ouple went on a trip to the luxury Esperanza resort in Cabo, Mexico, to celebrate Kim’s 23rd birthday. They had a camcorder with them and filmed themselves goofing around for the camera, adding their bedroom long bout.

The sekz tape was released by pono-site, Vivid Entertainment and in a move to stop the video from spreading on the internet, Kim sued the company. She later dropped the suit and reached an agreement with the company which fetched loads of cash.
Vivid Entertainment paid a million dollars for the video which became the bestselling film in adult video stores and online markets. Vivid’s co-chairman tells TMZ, “we are pleased that Kim has dropped her legal action against us, we met with her several times and finally reached a financial arrangement that we both feel is fair”.

Kim’s family have announced that they are ending their reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, this year.
Accordingly, speaking in a reunion show whilst reflecting on their lives lived publicly through the show that made them billions, Kim attributes their success to the tape.
Looking back at the events during those times, she confessed she wouldn’t know what to do if her children North 8, Chicago 3 and Psalm 2 one day asks her about it.

She also added that “I haven’t had to as of yet and luckily I think that so many years have gone on and so many things have happened positively that it really erases that,” she said. “It is something I have to live with for the rest of my life.”
In the video below, she also confessed to being under the influence of ecstasy before shooting the tape which would turn out to be both a blessing and a curse. ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s will end its 20-season run on Sunday 20th June 2021.
