IGP Issues Statement On How Young Officer And Hawker Were Killed By Bullion Van Robbers (PHOTOS)

A robbery shootout at the Timber market resulted in the death of a policeman and an unfortunate eyewitness.

The policeman according to an eyewitness was providing protection to a bullion van when they were jumped by armed robbers.

The driver was shot and injured but is currently receiving treatment at the Korle-bu teaching hospital. The van was reportedly trailed by a group of the suspected criminals in a taxi and a motorbike.

It is reported that the van was carrying an unknown amount of cash and when it got to a less crowded place, the robbers began shooting at the van suspiciously with some bullets going through the windscreen to hit a young police officer and the driver.

The policeman died instantly while the driver sustained some major injuries. The eyewitness was a woman, named Afua Badu, 40, who just saw firsthand what ensued on the road ended up being collateral damage after the robbers shot her.
