If I Locked You In For 2 Days, How Would You Feel? – IGP Dampare Confronts Officers For Keeping 25 People In Cell (WATCH)

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, has directed officers not to keep up to 25 people in police cells.

He described the practice as archaic during a tour of some police cells with his men.

He went on to say that the practice is harmful to everyone because the cells are too small to hold a large number of suspects.

“There’s no way you can fit 25 people in there.” That is, regardless of who is involved, whether he is a suspect, a criminal, or whatever, that person’s humanity is comparable to ours, and we cannot deny that person’s dignity.

“We have to be very humanistic because it could happen to any of us,” he said, adding that “we need to push the agenda of eradicating this cell over-population.”

The IGP also urged the officers he hired to be brutally honest about the issues they were facing.

He insisted that the best way to build a formidable security service is to identify problems and take action to solve them.

“We didn’t come to talk about a problem with you. We’ve identified a systemic issue that needs to be addressed. So be honest with us and end this old mentality policy of defending it. “It won’t help anyone,” he stated emphatically.
