“I Had To Boycott a Deal To Play For Man City Because I Wanted To Play For Ghana In AFCON But The Whole Nation Was Against Me” – Asamoah Gyan Recounts (WATCH)

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, often known as Baby Jet, has revealed one of the sacrifices he made for Ghana in the most recent African Cup of Nations tournament, which he claims was never appreciated by Ghanaians.

According to Asamoah Gyan, even though he had to put so much on the line for the nation simply to represent his country in the AFCON, he felt that the entire nation was against him in the middle of the tournament, even at that early age when he played for the Black Stars.

In an interview with GBAfrica, the former sensational footballer revealed that he had to turn down an offer to play for Manchester City in order to play for his country in the World Cup.

“I made a sacrifice for the sake of the nation.” I should have been out of the tournament, but because of my passion for the country, I opted to attend because I had a deal with Man City to sign, but I ignored the contract,” he explained.

Baby Jet also revealed that his agent encouraged him to skip the African Cup of Nations, go for rehabilitation, and then sign a deal with Manchester City, but he ignored him.

He stated that he told his agent that the tournament was very important to him because Ghana was still playing in it, and that he opted not to miss his second chance to play for Ghana in the AFCON in 2006.
