Akuapem Poloo convicted, court postpones sentencing over pregnancy test

Akuapem Poloo has been convicted by an Accra Circuit court over the nude photo she shared with her son last year.

Poloo appeared in court today for trial where she pleaded guilty to charges of publication of obscene material and two counts of engaging in domestic violence.

This follows her controversial nude post below, which she shared in 2020 to celebrate her son’s birthday on social media.

The photo attracted backlash and an NGO into Child Rights, filed a case against her to Ghana police, seeing to her arrest and court appearances.

The presiding judge, Ms Christiana Cann, then convicted the Ghanaian actress based on her own plea and postponed her sentencing to Friday (April 16, 2021) to await a pregnancy test.

As a requirement by law, the court has to be sure of her state as a woman, hence, order for the pregnancy test to be conducted to ensure that she is not pregnant before handing her a sentence.

Per Poloo’s criminal charges, she can be handed up to three years of jail time, community service or fine.

There’s the possibility of her getting a bit of all three with a very short jail term, or maybe just community service with a fine but it all depends on the description of the Presiding Judge.

As of now, convicted Poloo has been remanded in police custody until friday.
